Home TeleHealth was designed to provide basic healthcare, monitoring, and education to patients, enabling them to remain safely at home, using telecommunication technologies to communicate directly with a nurse.

The Home TeleHealth system consists of two components: a patient station and a central station. The patient station is a small, self-contained and easy-to-use device that is installed in the patient's home. This system links directly with a central station at Nursing & Home Care's main office. The two-way connection includes both audio and video components to facilitate a live patient visit with a nurse. Through regular telephone lines, the patient and nurse engage in virtual check-ups using medical instruments such as a telephonic stethoscope, vital sign equipment, glucose meter, pulse oximeter and digital scale. The peripheral equipment connects to the patient station and readings are downloaded to Nursing & Home Care's station where a nurse monitors the patient's progress, assesses his or her condition and make recommendations for the patient's care plan.

The use of Home TeleHealth has resulted in a reduction in anxiety among patients, fewer hospitalizations and a decreased number of visits to the Emergency Room. Patients report having greater peace-of-mind with Home TeleHealth. Knowing that a nurse is readily available to check on them eases the patient's anguish about their medical condition and gives them an added feeling of control over their situation.
